MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette County Road Commission has begun a resurfacing project on a portion of County Road 550.
The planned improvements are being done to an approximately three mile portion of the roadway from the Marquette City Limit to the Sugar Loaf Mountain parking area.
Road Commission officials say the work included in this 1.2 million dollar project consists of crushing the existing asphalt in place, regrading the material, and repaving the road surface. Motorists should expect some minor delays due to lane closures during the project.
Funding for the project is coming from Rio Tinto as part of planned improvements to County Roads 550 and 510 and the Triple-A roadway that will serve as transportation routes between the Eagle Mine on the Yellow Dog Plains and their processing mill in Humboldt.
