Snyder Not Getting Additional Money for Road Repairs

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Governor Rick Snyder is not getting the $1.2 billion in additional funds to repair Michigan roads, under a budget bill advancing in the state Legislature.

The state House yesterday approved an omnibus budget bill for fiscal year 2014 that increases the money to repair Michigan’s roads by about $350 million, with much of the funding coming from an unexpected budget surplus.

Snyder had called for $1.2 billion additional dollars to repair the state’s deteriorating roads, but earlier this month said if lawmakers could not come up with a transportation package, in terms of a funding package, they should consider looking at using surplus money.

The budget bill now advances to the Senate for its consideration as early as this week.
