39-year-old Jana Chaperon of Rapid River was arrested following an investigation into embezzlement involving Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique. She was arraigned today in 93rd District Court in Manistique one count of felony embezzlement of between $50,000 to $100,000 and one count of felony use of a computer to commit a crime.
Chaperon was the director of the Woodland Meadows Assisted Living Facility, a business owned by the hospital at the time of the embezzlement. She resigned from the position last summer prior to it’s sale.
If convicted, the embezzlement charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison.
