MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An Iron Mountain man will be retried after his trial for the alleged sexual assault of a minor ended in a hung jury last week.
Twenty-six year old Jacob Harvala was charged with three counts of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct involving a 15-year old victim.
The trial began on Wednesday and the case went to the jury Thursday afternoon. The jury deliberated for approximately 7 1/2 hours before notifying the judge they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The jury was excused on Friday afternoon and the judge declared a mistrial.
Harvala remains in custody and Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards says a pre-trial conference is now scheduled for April 8.
