Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Congress is now on Easter break, but not before approving a continuation budget for the current fiscal year last week, and two differing budgets for Fiscal 2014.

Before leaving for a two-week break, the US House and Senate approved a plan to keep government operating until October 1, and also began the process of hammering out a new budget by that time.

The House and Senate 2014 budgets differ greatly. Republicans want deep cuts in healthcare and social programs and lower tax rates, while Democrats would raise new revenue by curbing tax breaks to the wealthy, and spend it on infrastructure and job training programs.

President Obama is expected to unveil his 2014 budget plan in early April.
