January Jobless Rate Rises in Michigan

    Great Lakes Radio NewsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates rose in all of Michigan’s major labor market areas in January.

    The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says employment and labor force levels fell seasonally in all regions over the month.

    The Ann Arbor area had the state’s lowest jobless rate at 5.3 percent while Northeast Lower Michigan had the highest at 13.7 percent. The rate for the period in the Upper Peninsula was 10.3 percent, while the state rate was 9.7 percent.

    The rate in Marquette County was 7.9 percent.
