    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – For those with downstate travel plans, the National Weather Service says much of the Lower Peninsula is expected to be hit with freezing rain, sleet and high hinds as well as some snow.

    The weather event is expected to begin with sleet and rain in southern Lower Michigan late this morning, which will then move across the state throughout the day with snow showers increasing as the storm heads north.

    Power companies in areas downstate are preparing for possible outages caused by iced over power lines and winds reaching up to 50 miles per hour.

    Michigan State Police are warning motorist to be prepared for hazardous driving conditions around the state over the next 24 to 36 hours.
