Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be investing $400,000 in an area organization that provides assistance to small businesses and non-profits in the U.P.

The funds are going to Northern Initiatives through the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program.

The program was part of the 2014 Farm Bill and provides economic security for small businesses located in rural communities in Michigan.

Dennis West, President, Northern Initiatives, says the funding will support their ability to continue to make small loans and assist rural startup companies with their growth.
