The Department of Environmental Quality has approved the final permits for the proposed Orvana Corporation Copperwood copper and silver mine. The department and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency required some additional wetlands mitigation and stream channel development, including replacement of some culverts with bridges, as part of the permit.
The Canadian company needs the final permit to begin construction on the nearly 1,800-acre mine located about 18 miles southwest of the site of the former White Pine Mine.
The company hopes to begin production in 2014.
