Fatal Drunk Driving Accident In Chippewa County

    Sault Ste. Marie, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Criminal charges could be filed today against a woman arrested for drunk driving after a fatal traffic accident in the eastern U.P.

    State Police at the Sault Ste. Marie Post say the two-vehicle accident happened around 9:00 p.m. Friday in Chippewa County’s Soo Township.

    Reports say a 19-year old man and a 19-year-old passenger in his car were injured when their northbound vehicle was struck head-on by an oncoming southbound car driven by a 23-year-old woman on Mackinaw Trail near Three Mile Road.

    The driver of the northbound vehicle was taken the Univeristy of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor and later died of his injuries.

    The passenger was also transported to a downstate hospital in Petoskey.

    There is no word on their condition at this time.

    The driver of the southbound vehicle was not seriously injured.

    No names have been released and State Police say they are continuing the investigation.
