Traverse City, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Democratic candidate running for the 1st Congressional District remains hospitalized downstate after a car accident.

67-year-old Jerry Cannon of Fife Lake was injured in an accident around 9:00 p.m. Saturday after a campaign stop in Benzie County.

Reports say Cannon had to be extricated from his vehicle after it hit some black ice, slid off of the roadway and rolled over.

He was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

A campaign spokesperson says Cannon sustained a broken leg and some cuts and bruises and was last listed in fair condition.

Cannon faces fellow Democrat Lon Johnson in the Democratic primary in the race for the seat being vacated by the retiring Congressman Dan Benishek.
