Houghton, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Charges in the case of a Michigan Tech student arrested for posting a threat on a social media site have been dropped.
21-year-old Matthew Shultz of Norway, Michigan was in Houghton County District Court this morning for his pretrial hearing.
He was charged with disturbing the peace recently after allegedly posting a message threatening to shoot all black people on the social media site Yik Yak.
Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makinen requested a dismissal of the charge without prejudice, which was granted.
Reports say Makinen cited an ongoing investigation into the incident as a reason for the dismissal, and did not rule out the possibility of Shultz being re-charged based on that investigation.
