Gwinn Man To Be Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to Hit-And-Run

    Gwinn man to be sentenced after hit-and-run MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Sentencing is set for next month for a Marquette County man who plead guilty to charges connected to a hit and run traffic accident.

    30-year old Luke Huotari of Gwinn faces five years in prison after agreeing to a plea in a hit and run accident last summer that killed a Marquette woman and seriously injured her husband.

    He plead guilty to two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident that caused serious impairment of a bodily function or death. 42-year-old Karin LaChapell and her 39-year-old husband, Bryan, were struck by a car driven by Huotari as they were crossing a street on their way to watch the city’s Fourth of July fireworks display.

    Karin LaChapell died from her injuries. Bryan was released from the hospital a few days later.

    Huotari will be sentenced February 15.
