President's plan on gun violenceMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Michigan’s representatives in Washington are voicing their opinions on the Obama Administration’s plan addressing gun violence.

U.S. Congressman Dan Benishek is criticizing the plan saying law-abiding gun owners should not have their Second Amendment rights restricted because of the actions of criminals. The Iron River Republican says that he does not think the President’s plan to take guns out of the hands of responsible people is the answer, adding “Guns are not the problem, evil people are.”

Democrat U.S. Senator Carl Levin says he strongly supports the efforts outlined by President Obama. Levin says he supports restoring the ban on assault weapons and closing the gun show loophole to strengthen the background checks keeping weapons out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Levin added, “The president is right. It’s time for us to act, and Congress should do so.”
