Retailers encouraging last minute shopping with dealsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Procrastinators are now truly down to the last minute, with just today to finish their Christmas shopping before the big day tomorrow.

Retailers are ready and willing to accommodate consumers with special sales, discounts and other bargains, but the clock is ticking.

Tom Scott, of the Michigan Retailers Association, says one popular gift the last several years have been gift cards, which really don’t have to be thought of as “impersonal.” Scott says all indications of the season so far have been very positive, and seem to be following earlier projections.

Prior to the season 75 percent of Michigan retailers were expecting improved sales over last year, with at least half of them anticipating sales gains of five percent or better.

Scott says final numbers on the holiday shopping season will not be known until at least late January, after most consumers redeem gift cards they get for Christmas.
