MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Munising Detachment responded to a two-vehicle accident yesterday morning on M-28 about one mile west of Munising in Alger County.
The accident happened around 7:35 a.m. when a westbound car, driven by 25-year-old Sarah Gunderson of Thompson, North Dakota, was struck by an eastbound car that crossed the center line, driven by 31-year-old Richard Vanvershaegen.
Gunderson died from injuries sustained in the crash while Vanverschaegen was taken to Marquette General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The investigation is continuing.
