MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Michigan Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow have joined with five other Great Lakes state senators calling for increased funding for Great Lakes issues.

The senators wrote to the Office of Management and Budget Friday calling for robust funding of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in President Obama’s 2014 budget request.  The senators say cleaning up and protecting the Great Lakes is not just good environmental stewardship, but these investments are directly tied to the health of the economy.

The senators are urging the president to request no less than $300 million for the GLRI in his 2014 budget.
