Travel on Thanksgiving Up From Last Year

    Traveling on ThanksgivingMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)A recent Thanksgiving travel survey by TripAdvisor.com of more than 1,500 U.S. respondents, has found that 35 percent say they are traveling during this Thanksgiving holiday, which is up from 34 percent last year.

    38 percent of those traveling over Thanksgiving are flying, while 58 percent are driving.  The peak national Thanksgiving travel day is today, Thanksgiving day, with 31% of travelers hitting the road. Half of all travelers will head home on Sunday or later.

    During last year’s holiday period, there were seven fatal crashes resulting in seven fatalities on Michigan roads. Two of those were not wearing seat belts. None of the crashes involved alcohol.

    Officials are reminding motorists to be well rested and avoid alcohol if driving.
