Sault Ste. Marie – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Sault Ste. Marie Post have released an update of their investigation into the case of a Virginia man who was found dead in a cabin on Drummond Island in Chippewa County last week.
Troopers say autopsy results show that 38-year-old Aaron Furness of Woodbridge, VA died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Furness was tracked to the cabin by U.S. Border Patrol agents early last Thursday. Furness, who was a missing U.S. Military serviceman, shot at the agents, but they were not injured.
The agents returned fire and Furness ran to the cabin and barricaded himself inside.
After several attempts to contact Furness, authorities entered the cabin around 11:00 a.m. and found Furness dead.
