Marquette County's first K-9 unit passed away

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Police Department is reporting the passing of their first K-9 Unit Police Dog, Nero.

The 10-year-old Belgian Shepherd succumbed to cancer yesterday after being diagnosed with the disease for approximately a year.  Nero had recently been retired by the Department after nine years of service.

Two new Belgian Shepherds, Scud and Frodo, were sworn into service earlier this year to the Marquette Police as K-9 Units.

Reports say Nero’s handler, Sergeant Marty Munger was at Nero’s side when he passed away.
