Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan U.S. Senator Gary Peters has introduced legislation in Washington requiring a review of hazardous material pipelines in the Straits of Mackinac.
Peters joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about the legislation.
Peters says he has concerns with possible oil spills related to the aging Line 5 pipeline underneath the Straits of Mackinac.
The Pontiac Democrat says the legislation is part of an overall effort to ensure against spills and be able to react quickly if a spill occurs.
The legislation also bans shipments of crude oil by vessels in the Great Lakes and requires assessment of the current status of oil spill response.
