Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Representative Scott Dianda has introduced legislation requiring the state Department of Transportation to analyze the expected life of major road projects.
The Calumet Democrat’s bill requires M-DOT develop and implement the analysis for projects exceeding $1 million that are paid for in whole or in part with state funds.
The required analysis would include total project cost plus all projected maintenance, repair and resurfacing costs over the life of the pavement.
It would then be compared to equivalent project designs and the state’s actual historic project maintenance, repair and resurfacing schedules and costs.
Dianda says the measure would insure state money is being spent in a way that gets the best results.
