Ishpeming, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette County has received a state grant to assist with the redevelopment of the Mather Inn building in Ishpeming.

The $566,400 Community Development Block Grant was awarded by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority yesterday.

It will be used to rehabilitate 15,000 square feet on the second and third floors of the historic building with construction of six units on each level.

The building’s fourth floor has four existing one and two bedroom apartments that are all occupied.

Officials say that the current residents will not be displaced during construction.

Occupancy for the new apartment units will be made up of 51 percent low to moderate income residents.
