Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission has formally approved a purchase agreement with Duke LifePoint Healthcare for city land for the construction of a new hospital.
By a 6-to-1 vote at a special meeting yesterday, Commissioners approved the agreement to sell 37 acres of land along Baraga Avenue to DLP for $4 million.
The parcel contains the railroad property and the land where the Municipal Service Center currently stands.
The formal Commission vote was required by a memorandum of understanding between the City and DLP for the purchase executed last September.
The dissenting vote was cast by Commissioner Sara Cambensy.
