MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette County Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Coalition has teamed up with youth from Marquette and Ishpeming High Schools to safely get rid of old, outdated and excess prescription medications.

Sarah Derwin, coalition representative, and Paul Ritter, National Coordinator of the P2D2 prescription pill and drug disposal program joined the SUNNY Morning Show today to discuss how area youth in Marquette and Ishpeming have come together with health officials and the enforcement community to give residents a place to safe place to discard the medications they no longer need.

Sarah and Paul explained how the program has allowed for the placement of special receptacles in various locales for the collection of old medications to keep them from ending up in our area’s bodies of water, including Lake Superior.
