Marquette, MI – (05/28/20) – The Marquette County Jail recently had it’s first inmate test positive for COVID-19. Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to talk about the case and how it was managed by County Jail staff.

Zyburt said that the person was from out of the area, and was lodged early Friday by State Police. Upon lodging, the individual was screened and did not show symptoms, but told authorities they may have had contact with someone who had the virus in Wisconsin.

He added that the inmate was isolated and tested, and was found to be positive. The inmate is free on bond and is self-isolating. The person was never in the general population of the jail and had been isolated since coming in.

Zyburt explained that jail staff that had any contact with the inmate have been tested with all results, so far, being negative.

Zyburt also talked about the recent Memorial Day holiday weekend and what his Deputies encountered with arrests and reports.
