Severe Weather Coverage and School Closings brought to you by Pomp’s Tire in Marquette.

Marquette, MI – (11/27/19) – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of the U.P. this morning with heavy snow continuing across the region. The National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township says another 10 to 27 inches of snow is possible. The lowest accumulations will be along the Lake Superior shoreline and the heaviest will be in the higher terrain areas inland. Winds will be gusting as high as 45 mph, and travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, and snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour are likely.

Schools are closed in Marquette, Alger, Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw Counties today, and several other businesses and agencies are closed or will be opening late. Northern Michigan University has closed for the day, including the PEIF, and State Police are not encouraging travel today. If you must head out please try to call ahead to see if your destination is open.
