Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission will be taking action at their regular meeting tonight on the future of recreational marijuana establishments in the city, and also be discussing the plan for the reuse of the Marquette Lighthouse property.

Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli joined the Sunny Morning Show today to talk about these items on the agenda for the meeting.

Angeli said there will be a public hearing tonight on a proposed city ordinance that would prohibit such establishments within the city limits, saying that the proposed ordinance would allow the city to “opt out” until statewide regulations covering the establishments is developed by lawmakers in Lansing.

He added that the city would be looking to review the ordinance after such statewide regulations are created, saying that the city may very well “opt in” at that time.

Angeli said the Commission is also taking up the Marquette Lighthouse Park reuse plan, which was recently voted down by the City Planning Commission.

He said the plan that was put forth by city staff includes a new bike path, a new entrance to the park from Arch Street and parking upgrades, and staff are asking the Commission to vote tonight to overrule the Planning Commission and vote to approve the plan as presented.

The meeting begins at 6:00 o’clock this evening at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall.
