Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of the Upper Peninsula today with several inches of snow predicted through this afternoon and early evening. Wind gusts of up to 40 MPH are also causing visibility problems throughout the region.
As a result, schools are closed across much of the U.P. this morning due to the inclement weather. At last report, all schools are closed in Marquette, Alger, Baraga, Houghton, Ontonagon, Keweenaw, Delta and Schoolcraft Counties. Bay College has also closed their Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses for the day.
Travel during the early-morning hours is not recommended today, but if you must travel, please drive carefully and allow extra time to arrive at your destination safely.
