Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – NICE Community Schools Superintendent Bryan DeAugustine shared a district update today on the Sunny Morning Show.

DeAugustine said he recently traveled to Lansing to testify at the State Capitol on Senate Bill 390, which would send $500,000 to Marquette County schools negatively impacted by mine closures in the area.

He said he doesn’t know how the legislation will fare during the current lame duck session of the legislature, but he remains hopeful.

DeAugustine also shared the latest on a request for $2.5 million grant through the Michigan Marshall Plan for Talent that would award the money to a coalition of 21 schools across the U.P., and includes Northern Michigan University, Michigan Tech and Bay College.

The money would be used for cybersecurity courses for students, and the final word on the grant awards will be made by December 20th.
