MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has voted to support the planned construction of County Road 595 in Western Marquette County.
The DEQ says the Marquette County Road Commission has made significant improvements to their plan to minimize the project’s environmental impact.
The DEQ says they feel these changes address the concerns about environmental issues raised by the Environmental Protection Agency during the application process and that the EPA should move ahead and grant the final permits for the project to begin.
The road has been designed to allow heavy truck traffic from the Rio Tinto Eagle Mine easier access to the Humboldt Mill, and divert truck traffic from more populated areas in the county.
