Public meeting for County Road 5-95 by the EPA

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A public meeting is scheduled for next week by the Environmental Protection Agency on the application by the Marquette County Road Commission to construct County Road 5-95.

At their regular meeting yesterday, the Road Commission encouraged the public to come out and voice their opinions about the proposed road. The road is intended to connect the Rio Tinto Mine to the Humboldt Mill and has been somewhat controversial since it’s proposal.

The County Road Commission says they are backing the project since it will divert truck traffic from populated areas. Opponents say the road is a waste of money and is not needed.

The EPA public hearing on the road commission’s application for a permit is August 28th at 7 p.m. the University Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University.
