MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Senator Tom Casperson is holding a series of informational meetings tomorrow on recent changes to state law regarding beach grooming.
The Escanaba Republican will be meeting with interested members of the public starting at 8 a.m. at the Banquet Room of the Hampton Inn in Marquette. At 1:30 p.m. Casperson will be at the Manistique City Hall in Manistique, and at The Herman Center at Bay College in Escanaba at 4:30 p.m.
Senate Bill 1052, which was sponsored by Casperson, recently was signed into law and removed restrictions implemented by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality that limited how beach maintenance can be done. Some state regulations remain for coastal wetland areas, and federal regulations remain for leveling or grooming of sand, so beach owners should ensure they understand the regulations before proceeding with grooming activities.
