MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Authorities in the Eastern Upper Peninsula say a section of M-28 in Chippewa County was closed for several hours due to an accident involving a semi-truck and three other vehicles.
The accident was reported around 3:30 yesterday afternoon near the entrance to the Soldier Lake Campground. A westbound semi truck was carrying two-ton steel rolls when it lost it’s load and damaged the highway.
Police say the semi went out of control when the driver failed to see a passenger car stopped on the highway attempting to make a left turn. The semi truck hit that vehicle, pushed it into the oncoming lane where it collided head-on with an oncoming S-U-V. One of the steel rolls rolled down the highway and hit an eastbound van. Four people were taken to War Memorial Hospital and were treated and released.
The roadway re-opened just before 11 p.m. No names are being released by authorities.
