Michigan State Police and the Alger County Sheriff’s Department are investigating an apparent drowning in Lake Superior near Grand Marias.  Few details have been released, but reports say that the body of an elderly woman was recovered from the lake by the Grand Marias pier after authorities were called out about a report of something floating in the water just after 8 o’clock this morning.  The body has been reported to be that of an 89-year-old Grand Marais resident, but no name has been released.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office will be hosting a public forum in Marquette on the proposed sale of Marquette General Hospital to Duke Lifepoint.  Members of the Attorney General’s Hospital Sale Review Team and representatives of Marquette General and Duke Lifepoint will gather on Tuesday, July 17th at 5:00pm at the UpFront & Company.  The proposed sale requires approval by the state Attorney General.  The forum will provide the public with an overview of the proposed sale and the Attorney General’s review process, and allow the public to comment and ask questions. Michigan moved up one spot but is still in the bottom half of the country on CNBC’s “top states for business” list this year.  The Great Lakes State is ranked 33rd this year, with improvements noted in access to capital, cost of living and the economy.  Getting worse compared to last year is infrastructure and transportation and the cost of doing business.
