Marquette, MI – June 12, 2019 – With local meteorologists only calling for a high of 56 degrees and off and on rain all day today, I can’t imagine it’s going to be very warm sitting on the sidelines watching a U8 soccer game tonight!
But, I am a soccer mom, so sit on the sidelines with my umbrella, lawn chair, and blanket while cheering on #7 (the Pink Dragons!) I will.
The things you do for your kids.
Because I love that little stinker so much, I will sit. And watch.
And enjoy every, single second.
These are the moments and memories you can’t recreate, you can’t get back.
So I will love every muddy kick, every grin after a goal, the soaked uniform, the mud in the house after the game, the shivering little body in the car as I turn on the heater, all of it.
I will wrap him in a big bear hug and warm him up and kiss his sweaty, muddy, wet head and tell him he did an amazing job, whether he won or not.
Since, as I remind him, it’s not about winning; it’s about enjoying the game.
I will pick up the dirty clothes trail down the hall and smile as I listen to him singing in the shower.
Then, we will snuggle in the chair and read a few books (probably one about soccer, which he will insist he read, not me) before turning out the light.
I can’t imagine a better way to spend my evening. :) Because, these are the memories you can’t get back.
