Marquette, Michigan – May 6, 2019 – Long car rides are often a parent’s own version of hell.
Unless, you’re prepared. Cue in books, tablets, little toys (thanks, McDonald’s!) and good ol’ pen and paper.
This past weekend, my family and I had to travel downstate for a quick trip. That meant 6 1/2 hours in the car with my 7 1/2 year old, stuck in the backseat by himself.
Luckily, Holden’s pretty good at keeping himself occupied.
Between his “Dog Man” and “Captain Underpants” books (thanks, Dav Pilkey!), target practice games on the tablet, the little aforementioned toys, and the imagination of a small child, he was kept occupied.
And since he has no siblings (and we didn’t take along my nephew), there wasn’t any fighting or screaming to deal with in the backseat.
Just the occasional “aw, MAN!” when the tablet died.
All in all, it was a pretty uneventful road trip. He is becoming quite the selfie-taker, though. We’re going to need to have a chat about that. Haha!
