MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – “Project Food For A Neighbor” is getting underway this weekend. The effort is being coordinated by Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming and St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Negaunee.
Drive organizer Dick Derby joined Mike Plourde and Walt Lindala this morning to promote the food drive which will benefit the food pantries of the Salvation Army and St. Vincent dePaul stores in both Ishpeming and Negaunee.
He also explained how the food drive has grown over the last three years and thanked all of the volunteers who make the event happen.
The drive kicks off tomorrow morning with the distribution of thousands of shopping bags in Negaunee, Ishpeming and West Ishpeming between 10am and noon. The bags will have a message attached explaining the food drive and what items are being collected.
Those bags will then be picked up by the same volunteers in a week, on Saturday the 21st from 10am to noon.
