Marquette, MI – September 21, 2026 – A group of U.P. lawmakers is urging the passage of corrections officer pension legislation in Lansing.
State Senator Ed McBroom and Representatives Dave Prestin, Karl Bohnak and Greg Markkanen are calling for the passage of three bills to add corrections and conservation officers and others to the Michigan State Police’s pension program.
McBroom, who introduced the bills, spoke about the legislation with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
McBroom says the amended bills have passed in the Senate and would replace those that were recently vetoed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
He added that he, and his fellow U.P. lawmakers, say the bills are needed to expand eligibility while protecting existing retirement funds.
