Marquette, MI – September 3, 2026 – State Senator Ed McBroom is applauding the Michigan Strategic Fund board approval of $50 million in funding for an western Upper Peninsula copper mine project.
The funding for the Copperwood Mine was approved by the board by a 7-2 vote on Tuesday, August 25.
McBroom shared his thoughts this week with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
The Dickinson County Republican said the funding provided $5 million to the Gogebic County Road Commission for road infrastructure and $45 million to Copperwood Resources Inc. to improve energy and communications infrastructure. He added that the cost of these improvements will also require equal or greater investment from the company.
McBroom said the investment was long overdue for the western U.P. and will revitalize opportunities for growth and work to create new jobs for the community.
