Marquette, MIApril 21, 2026The Michigan Department of Transportation is getting underway with projects in the central U.P. for the spring and summer.

Dan Weingarten, M-DOT Superior Region Communications Representative, spoke about the projects with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Weingarten said work has begun on a major resurfacing project on US-2 in Delta County. The $4.5 million project will resurface over 19 miles of US-2 from the east end of Rapid River to east of Isabella and will include asphalt milling and repairs, resealing and more. The project is expected to be wrapped up in mid-August.

He also said that another major project with a new roundabout will start next week in Marquette County.

Weingarten outlined the $6.2 million project to rebuild over three miles of M-35 between County Road 480 and US-41. The project includes the building of a roundabout at the intersection of M-35 and County Road 492 in Negaunee Township. Tree clearing work will start on Monday, April 27th, and road work will start in early May.

He added that the project is expected to be completed in mid-October.

Weingarten also reminded listeners that the best way to stay on top of construction and emergency road closures under their jurisdiction is to visit the MDOT Mi Drive Map online.
