Marquette, MI – February 25, 2026 – A portion of downtown Ishpeming was closed off and homes were evacuated after a building collapse early this morning. City Police reported the collapse of the roof of the VFW Hall on Bank Street around 6:30am.
Damage from the collapse caused a gas line leak and surrounding homes around the hall were evacuated as a security precaution.
Scholz explained that utility crews and emergency personnel responded to the scene and got the gas lines closed off. He said residents were let back into their homes around 9:30am and city officials said there is no danger to the community.
The investigation into the cause is underway, but it’s believed the roof collapsed due to heavy snow load. No injuries have been reported.
