
Marquette, MI – February 13, 2026 – Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist stopped in to talk with Mark & Walt in the Morning today during a visit to the U.P.
Gilchrist discussed several items, including legislation recently signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer that bans cell phones in Michigan classrooms beginning this fall.
He also talked about the proposed state budget as put forth this week by the Governor’s office and it’s impacts on education funding for both K-12 schools and higher education.
Gilchrist also shared his thoughts about visiting the U.P. over the years for the annual UP 200 sled dog races and what the event means to him.
He also talked about his recent ending of his campaign for Governor and his shift to running for the spot of Democratic nominee for Michigan Secretary of State race.
