Marquette, MI – January 26, 2026 – The Marquette City Commission is holding a work session later today to discuss E-bikes in the City. The City’s recently-formed E-bike Task Force will be making a presentation to the Commission at that session.
The Task Force will be presenting their recommendations to the Commission that have been gathered through a series of listening sessions and meetings with interested stakeholders.
The Commission also has a regular meeting this evening. They will be voting on a resolution supporting state legislation related to the allowed continued use of so-called RICE, or Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines, for energy production.
The City installed a series of those engines in 2016 intended for use through 2050, but changes to state energy policy are threatening their use. The resolution supports bills currently under review in Lansing allowing for their continued use.
Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs spoke about both meetings with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Both meetings at at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall. The work session is at 5:00pm, followed by the regular meeting at 6:00pm.
