Marquette, MIJanuary 14, 2026 – High winds, blowing snow and cold temperatures have created very hazardous conditions across the region this morning. The National Weather Service in Negaunee Township is calling for these conditions to continue through the morning, with up to 5 more inches of snow in some areas and very bad visibility.

North winds are gusting as high as 45 mph, especially near Lake Superior, which is creating visibilities of a quarter-mile or less with whiteout conditions at times. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1:00 o’clock this afternoon for much of the U.P. with slippery roads and high winds continuing.

All schools in Marquette County, including Northern Michigan University, are closed today due to the inclement weather.

In Alger County, Burt Township and Superior Central Schools are closed, while Munising and AuTrain-Onota Schools are delayed 3 hours.  Munising Baptist School is delayed 2 hours.

Also closed today are all Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga County Schools.
