Marquette, MI – November 26, 2025 – Blizzard conditions are forecast to spread west to east across Upper Michigan today with heavy snow and high winds. The National Weather Service in Negaunee Township says a Blizzard Warning is currently in effect for the western half of the U.P., with one going into effect at 10am for Marquette County and 3 o’clock this afternoon in Alger County. A Winter Storm Warning covers the rest of the U.P., with all warnings continuing into tomorrow. Over 20 inches of snow through tomorrow are possible.
Officials say travel could become very difficult later today as temperatures drop and rain turns into snow. High winds, sometimes gusting over 50mph, are predicted to start later today causing poor visibility for drivers who may be traveling for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving holiday. Area law enforcement agencies are encouraging anyone planning to travel today to perhaps leave earlier than expected and to have a winter survival kit in their vehicle when they hit the road.
As a result of the predicted storm, we do have a few weather-related announcements this morning. Marquette County has announced they are in a “non essential workforce reduction”, which means only essential county personnel need to report to work today. All County court hearings and appointments have been canceled and will be rescheduled.
Also, Marquette-Alger RESA is closed today, Powell Township Schools are closed, and Gogebic Community College has closed their Copper Country and Ironwood locations for today.
The Upper Peninsula Power Company says with the predicted storm hitting the region today, power outages are possible. UPPCO officials say outages may occur as weather conditions deteriorate and heavy snows and high winds move in through the day. The company says their crews are on stand-by to respond and they have contracted additional crews to be on the ready, if needed.
UPPCO is asking customers to report any outages they are experiencing by contacting them through the company’s online outage portal at uppco.com.
