
Marquette, MI – October 17, 2025 – Indigenous Studies, storytelling, research and cooking are all combining in two events happening next week at Northern Michigan University.
The NMU Center for Native American Studies is hosting a showing of of the film SEEDS, written and directed by Kaniehtiio Horn in Jamrich Hall 1100 on the NMU Campus on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:00pm. Also, the Indigenous Perspectives Symposium on Food is coming up an Thursday, October 23rd at the Northern Center.
Lindala said the screening presents a film that is a mix of humor and horror. Horn, who will be in attendance, may be best known for her portrayal as Deer Lady in the hit show, “Reservation Dogs”. A conversation with Horn will follow the viewing.
Schapp explained the symposium is a one-day event dedicated to exploring the rich traditions, profound significance, and evolving future of Indigenous food systems.
They added that the events are free and open to the public, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
