Marquette, MI – August 22, 2025 – The Ishpeming City Council is moving to buy over 11-hundred acres of land from Cleveland-Cliffs Inc.
Ishpeming City Manager Randy Scholz spoke about the purchase with Mark & Walt in the Morning.
Scholz talked about the plan to purchase a total of 1,107 acres for just under $240,000.
He said following some preliminary negotiations between the City and Cliffs, and a successful public meeting to discuss the plan with residents, the Council voted unanimously to move ahead with the purchase.
Scholz added that more negotiations and required due diligence inspections and environmental reviews must be completed next, so there is no definite timeline for the deal to be wrapped up.
