School Closings & Severe Weather Update For Monday, March 31, 2025

Marquette, MIMarch 31, 2025 – It’s an extra day of spring break for many students across Marquette County as schools are closed today due to inclement weather. A lingering winter storm brought more heavy and wet snow to the region yesterday and overnight snarling up roads and shutting down schools for today.

Northern Michigan University is also closed for today with no classes being held. The

National Weather Service says expect a few snow showers to continue through the morning hours with blustery conditions with north winds gusting up to 30 mph.

Other Closings in the Marquette area:

The Superior Dome, PEIF, Fitzone and the Wellness cent and Pharmacy are closed today at NMU.

Community Action Alger-Marquette Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meals are cancelled.

Catholic Social Services offices are closed in Marquette.

Ishpeming and Marquette Senior Centers are closed today.

Superior Alliance for Independent Living offices in Marquette are closed.

The entire state of Michigan has some type of severe weather this weekend. More than 200-thousand residents in southern lower Michigan are without power this morning after storms packing high winds and heavy rain moved through the area yesterday afternoon.

Residents in Northern Lower Michigan dealing with the aftermath of a severe ice storm that struck the region. More than 145 thousand residents there were without power over the weekend. The National Weather Service in Gaylord says ice accumulations range in that part of the state were from a half inch to an inch.
