Marquette, MIMarch 17, 2025State Senator Ed McBroom says there seems to be a bit more bipartisanship on the horizon as budget negotiations are set to begin in Lansing.

McBroom shared his thoughts during a legislative update today with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

McBroom said Governor Gretchen Whitmer appears to be setting up negotiations with a tone of “crossing the aisle” to get the budget set for the state for the upcoming fiscal year.  He explained that the sentiment comes after voters flipped the State House to Republican control, breaking up the Democrats’ trifecta of state government.

The Dickinson County Republican did say that newly-elected Speaker of the House, Matt Hall, a Republican from downstate Richland Township in southwest Michigan, seems to be enjoying drama created by always wanting to make deals on every piece of legislation that comes up for consideration.

McBroom was making the comment in reference to his co-sponsored bipartisan FOIA legislation that passed early this session in the State Senate, but has stalled in the House under Hall’s leadership.
